WHY FUERTEVENTURA

Geography

Since the resumption of tourism in 2014, Fuerteventura has stood out as the main destination for many tour operators, thanks to its breathtaking views, entertainment combined with a wild atmosphere and a world yet to be totally discovered.
Despite being about the same size as Gran Canaria and Tenerife, it has only a tenth of the inhabitants, making it a paradise of calm and wide spaces that have earned it the name "Isla Lenta", allowing a quality of life now forgotten elsewhere.

Activity

The constant temperature, the summer trade winds and the winter tides of the Atlantic make the island a surfer's paradise all year round.
Sailors, divers and deep-sea fishermen are attracted to the clear waters of the Atlantic, where it is easy to come across whales, dolphins, swordfish and turtles.
Much of the interior, with its wide plains and volcanic reliefs, consists of protected areas, which can be explored by off-road vehicle or dirt bike.

The Beaches

The geographical position of the island has allowed the sands of the Sahara to settle on the coasts creating numerous beaches. The most popular are: La Concha in El Cotillo, with light sand, a very long beach dedicated to surfers and romantics for unforgettable sunsets.

The Natural Park of the Great Dunes of Corralejo, an incredible piece of desert of very white sand that slopes into the ocean. Characteristic black stone constructions in the shape of a nest allow you to shelter from the wind.

And then there is Sotavento, characterised by the alternating tides that cover and uncover hectares of beach, forming lagoons where you can walk in 40 cm of water.

The climate

With a surface area of 1,659 km², Fuerteventura is the second largest island in the Canary Islands after Tenerife (2,034.38 km²) and the closest to the African coast, which is 97 km away.
The island is located at the same latitude as Florida and Mexico and the temperature rarely drops below 18°C or above 26°C. There are more than 152 beaches along the coast: 50km of fine, white sand and 25km of volcanic gravel.
